One new company that is surfacing is LiQuid Computing, an Ottowa-based computer developer. LiQuid Computing produces a computer system around its own midplane interconnect that is scalable from 2GB/s to 100 GB/s at low latency. The mid-plane eliminates the need for cables in the system.
A "one algorithm company" is Exludus. They figured out, and patented a way to broadcast data very, very fast. This is useful for appliciations like Blast and medical imaging. The company recently also opened a European office.
There are also European companies with new products like Fujitsu Europe with SynfiniWay, a tool for Grid computing management and, of course, Bull with its TOP10 class Tera supercomputer.
The exhibition is the part of the ISC event that has benefited most from the move to Dresden. There is enough space (overlooking the river Elbe) for the booths, that are all on the same floor. Although less charming than the old building in Heidelberg, it is easier to find your way. Unfortunately (for the visitor) the number of booths is also much larger. Was it already impossible to visit all booths in the past years and spending some time at each one, today you cannot even try without missing a part of the conference programme.
