The Enabling Grids for E-sciencE (EGEE) project team invites interested parties to the 5th EGEE Industry Day, the first on Biomedical Challenges in Grid Adoption between Research and Industry, which will focus on how the EGEE framework enables companies and research organisations to confidently move forward with the adoption of its Grid technologies. The Industry Day will take place on 24 November 2006 at CSC, the Finnish IT centre for science, Keilaranta 14, Keilaniemi, Espoo, Helsinki, Finland.

Biomedicine is a major application area for the EGEE project. With 23 applications deployed and being ported, it is subdivided into three areas: medical image processing, biomedicine, and drug discovery, all of which have already many individual applications deployed on the EGEE infrastructure. These applications stress the middleware with specific requirements, especially related to security, data management and the execution of large numbers of small jobs with data intensive needs.
The Finnish Centre for Science (CSC) in Helsinki, Finland, will provide the setting to discuss why the pharmaceutical sector is, today, a natural adopter of Grid technologies. By embracing these new technologies, Bio-informatics research centres and ultimately pharmaceutical companies will be able to bring products to market faster, with better quality and efficiency, gain a competitive edge and increase revenue. These are key business drivers across a broad spectrum of industrial sectors.
This event brings together targeted attendants of the IST2006 event - 21-23 November 2006, Helsinki, business players and academic and research communities from across Europe, offering a forum for interaction with EGEE management, developers of the EGEE Grid Infrastructure, experts in Bio-Informatics and EU Grid Infrastructure policy makers.
Speakers currently include representatives from CSC (Finland), e-IRG (e-Infrastructures Reflection Group), CNR (Italy), CNRS (France), Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Studies (Germany), Medicel Ltd (Finland), KTH (Sweden), SZTAKI (Hungary) and Maat-G (Spain).
Subscription to the event, brings the benefits of becoming part of the EGEE Community.
