Amsterdam Cable Company ordered Sun Servers for broad band Internet services

Amsterdam, 20-06-1997 A2000 Cable Television & Telecommunications, the cable television provider in Amsterdam, has ordered Sun's scalable, Solaris-based Ultra Enterprise servers to use them as the foundation for a new broadband Internet service. The service will be available to the more than 600,000 households and businesses in the Amsterdam region.

A2000 will implement high performance Internet services via cable modems and a hybrid fiber coax infrastructure. The commercial launch is scheduled for the end of 1997. More than 94% of Amsterdam's households are wired for cable TV.

Sun Ultra 150 and Ultra II servers will handle Web, news, media serving, and related services.

The system also includes products and technologies from Cisco, Oracle, LANcity, and Netscape.
