An overview of all the current commercial supercomputers

Utrecht 25 Mar 99 What is a CPP Gamma II? How many processors has an Avalon A12? What is the peak performance of an Origin2000? An answer to these quations can be found in the ninth edition of the publication "Overview of recent supercomputers" by Aad van der Steen. It lists all commercial available supercomputers today, or within the next few months. In the introdution Van der Steen explains the architectural structure of today's supercomputers.

The machines described by Van der Steen include the well known machines from IBM, Compaq/DEC, SGI, Fujitsu, NEC, SUN, NEC, HP and Hitachi, and some less known machines, like the Quadrics, C-DAC PARAM, Tera MTA and Cambridge CPP. When available, some benchmark figures are included, which gives an idea on how well the machine performs.

There is a separate chapter describing the old machines that are no longer available and a chapter descibing the machine on the drawing table of the large companies.

That the supercomputer scene is moving very rapidly, is shown by the fact that the hpcLine machine from Siemens or the Scali machine ar missing, as is the Starbridge system.

The book is very handy when one needs to know what type of machines are available on the market.

The report is available on the web in Europe and the USA.

Paper copies can be obtained from: NCF.

Please note that the web sites were not yet updated at the time of publication: they should describe the ninth edition of the report
