Web hosting company installs SP2 supercomputer

Annapolis 28 Aug 99 US based ValueWeb serves more than 30,000 Web sites for customers in more than 100 countries, and, as one of only five members of Network Solutions' Alliance Program, which facilitates the offering of premium domain name registration services, has been growing by more than 3,000 domains a month recently. ValueWeb is installing an IBM RS/6000 SP2 supercomputer that will enable the company to scale server resources to meet the demands of even the most complex Internet applications.

"By leveraging ValueWeb's technical capabilities for hosting and application services, we can provide a broader range of solutions to all e.spire customers, allowing us to grow our data and Internet business with continued focus," said Anthony J. Pompliano, e.spire Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "ValueWeb has comprehensive domestic and international expansion plans, and, as additional enhanced services are launched in the near future, this ongoing dedication of resources will further expand e.spire's capabilities."

ValueWeb is one of the 10 largest Web-hosting companies in the world, based on the number of Web sites hosted, according to data obtained from Network Solutions, Inc.

ValueWeb now serves more than 30,000 Web sites for customers in more than 100 countries, and, as one of only five members of Network Solutions' Alliance Program, which facilitates the offering of premium domain name registration services, has been growing by more than 3,000 domains a month recently.

Located in South Florida, ValueWeb's operations, including its sales and support center, are staffed on a 24x7 basis. By relying on e.spire's data centers and nationwide Tier-1 Internet network, ValueWeb can deliver the valuable content of its customers' Web sites directly from its Web servers to major public and private Internet hubs and on to the global Internet.

ValueWeb products include an entry-level account at $14.95 per month, a series of mid-priced standard and commerce accounts, and the recently announced $249.95-per-month Enterprise account, a carrier-grade solution designed for mission-critical applications.

Other products scheduled for launch include highly scalable commerce applications, application hosting products, and carrier-grade colocation services.

Recognizing the hurdles faced by foreign companies when dealing with U.S. service providers, ValueWeb has placed additional emphasis on support for international customers.

For example, customers around the world will soon be able to initiate sales, customer service, and technical support through ValueWeb's Web site, where they can exchange online messages with a live ValueWeb representative or request an immediate voice call from a live representative.

These tools give international customers virtually no-cost access to ValueWeb's sales and support center in the United States, and reduce their overall cost of hosting with a U.S. service provider.

ValueWeb, moving rapidly to expand its facilities, has begun construction of a new 60,000-square-foot office and data center in Fort Lauderdale, FL, which is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.

e.spireCommunications announced that FloridaNet, Inc., d/b/a ValueWeb, a Web-hosting services provider, will manage product development and technical infrastructure for Web hosting and application outsourcing for e.spire's entire customer base, while accelerating efforts to expand reach into international markets.

Concurrently, e.spire is escalating ValueWeb's product rollout and facility expansion initiatives.

This state-of-the-art facility will leverage e.spire's local fiber network in South Florida to deliver extensive capacity to customers for colocation, dedicated server, and application hosting services. Additionally, ValueWeb is installing an IBM RS/6000 SP2 supercomputer that will enable the company to scale server resources to meet the demands of even the most complex Internet applications.

Together, the new facility and system architecture will enable ValueWeb to provide a wide spectrum of hosting services to customers around the world.

"ValueWeb's product set complements e.spire's other voice and data products," said Pompliano. "By maintaining a large installed base of shared hosting customers on ValueWeb servers, e.spire can provide cost-effective hosting solutions and other enhanced services to the entire e.spire customer base."

ValueWeb is a subsidiary of CyberGate, Inc., acquired by e.spire in 1997. CyberGate, a national Internet service provider (ISP), offers dial-up Internet access.
