SGI introduces 8-way Intel based servers with Linux and NT

Moutain view 04 Aug 99 SGI introduced the 1000 server family based on the 32-bit Intel architecture. With models running the SGI Linux Environment and Windows NT operating systems, the SGI 1000 server family will include products ranging from two-way rack-optimized servers, to four-way workgroup and application servers, to eight-way database servers. SGI also introduced the 1400L and 1400M four-way servers that support SGI Linux and Windows NT respectively.

he new SGI 1000 server family extends SGI's server offering to lower price points and fulfills customer needs for comprehensive and cost-effective solutions that merge SGI's unrivaled expertise and innovation in scalability, bandwidth and performance with industry-standard components and operating systems. The SGI 1000 server family is ideally suited for application areas in which SGI has traditionally been a strong leader, including Internet serving, media serving, strategic business analysis and technical computing. Along with the new server family, SGI will introduce a variety of solutions targeted for digital media, education, Internet, manufacturing, sciences and strategic business analysis.
