Alias Wavefront to Offer Rendering on Linux

Los Angeles 09 Aug 99 Alias|Wavefront plans to create Red Hat Linux V6 versions of its award-winning Maya Batch Renderer and Maya Composer Renderer for Intel IA-32 processor-based computers. Alias|Wavefront is providing Linux operating system compatible rendering software products so that its customers will be able to take advantage of the increasingly popular Linux operating system on Intel processor-based hardware.

"Alias|Wavefront is not content to rest upon its laurels," said Brennen Doyle, compositing supervisor for Tippett Studios. "Linux support is an indication of their commitment to give production artists the ability to work with the best tools on whatever operating system suits their needs. The Linux Maya Composer Renderer will enable us to build an inexpensive and fast render farm, making our compositors even more efficient and increasing Composer software's cash input to image output ratio."

Alias|Wavefront is one of the first companies in the computer graphics and digital video industries to announce products that will be available for Linux. The Linux operating system was created as freeware by Linus Torvalds while attending the University of Helsinki, and has been eagerly embraced by the digital content community, as a viable platform for its compute-intensive needs.

Available December 1999, the Linux version of the Maya Composer Renderer and Maya Batch Renderer will have the same SRP as the versions for other platforms. Current SRP for the Maya Composer Renderer is $3,000 (U.S.) and the Maya Batch Renderer is $1,295 (U.S.).
