Sound success for free SUN Solaris shipment
Palo Alto 05 Aug 99 The Free Solaris Program has shipped more than 100,000 copies of the Solaris Operating Environment during the first nine months. Sun also announced that membership in the Solaris Developer Connection has increased more than 200 percent with Windows and Linux developers making up the majority of new Free Solaris licensees.
Solaris software for either the SPARCor Intel platform obtained through the Free Solaris Program can be used for academic and other non-commercial purposes. Students, educators and non-profit research organizations can order Solaris software via the Web . The Free Solaris Program currently offers Solaris in six languages including: English, German, French, Spanish, Swedish and Italian and Sun will begin offering a Japanese version this fall. Non-commercial and educational developers pay only the cost of media, shipping and handling.
