MDL ported to Solaris

Palo Alto 25 Aug 99 MDL Information Systems will port its ISIS Server foundation products, including ISIS/Host by the end of fourth quarter, 1999, and Chemscape and Cheshire for ISIS soon to follow, to Solaris. MDL provides discovery informatics for the life science and chemical industries.

"We always try to respond to the changing needs of our customers and the technology landscape," said Rudy Potenzone, senior vice president, product development of MDL Information Systems, Inc. "Sun Microsystems' hardware portfolio represents an important choice for our customers as they plan their future local and enterprise environments. We are delighted to work with Sun to bring ISIS to their platform."

ISIS/Host users will now be able to take advantage of the benefits of Sun's robust, scalable, enterprise-level platform. With the Solaris product line, ISIS/Host users will experience enhanced performance and added flexibility for discovery informatics applications ranging from chemical registration, commercial database access, internal chemical/biological database systems, metabolic and toxicological information management, to sample and reagent inventory management and procurement.

ISIS, MDL's Integrated Scientific Information System, is the most widely deployed information management framework for discovery data. ISIS enables users to register, retrieve, display, analyze, and communicate scientific information for desktop use, within project groups, and across an enterprise.

"We are very pleased to work with MDL to support ISIS/Host and follow-on products to better serve the life sciences and chemical industries," said Gerry McAndrew, market development manager of Sun Microsystems, Inc. "MDL is a strategic ally for Sun because of its market position and discovery vision in these industry segments. MDL products and services continue to empower scientists to be more productive and collaborative in applying new technology to the discovery process."
