Compaq Delivers V5.0 of Tru64 Unix & TruCluster Server

Houston 01 Oct 99 Compaq started delivery of its Tru64 UNIX V5.0 and TruCluster Server V5.0 on-schedule in August 1999. With V5.0, customers can now manage multiple systems as a single system.

Compaq TruCluster Server V5.0 extends the Single System Image (SSI) cluster model to deliver the industry's first uniform shared root cluster solution. This provides for high availability and unmatched ease of scalability. Complex tasks such as installing applications, executing file-based management operations, or adding disks are done only once across the entire cluster. This feature simplifies cluster management by providing a single system view of the entire cluster and lowers the total cost of operations. With its uniformed shared root, TruCluster Server V5.0 enables simple application failover. Load balancing, which provides scalability and performance, is automatic.

Tru64 UNIX V5.0 features system partitioning which allows multiple instances of the operating system to run on a single system. This will allow customers to simultaneously run production applications, develop and test new applications, and run other applications such as Web hosting. System management has been vastly simplified. The unique Event Manager monitors, evaluates, and helps administrators streamline system management. Tru64 UNIX V5.0 also features dynamic tuning, which allows operators to allocate resources without halting system activities. Web-based, Java-enabled system management is provided to enable management from any system, PC, or server on the network. Tru64 UNIX agents for Compaq Insight Manager (CIM) are provided.
