Raytheon selects Sun for SAP applications

Palo Alto 12 Oct 99 Raytheon Company is deploying a new mission-critical SAP backbone for managing enterprise applications on a platform comprised of Sun Enterprise servers, software and 1.5 terabytes of storage.

Sun's deployment of the SAP standard will begin at the headquarters of the Wichita-based Raytheon Aircraft Company. This initial implementation will support over 3,000 SAP users, a number that is expected to grow to 15,000 once the SAP system is deployed across the entire company.

"Sun's product line performance, scalability, technology direction, and the capability of Sun Professional Services were key criteria in our selection, " said Craig Fowler, Raytheon's Director of Computer Systems Engineering.

The new server systems architecture will consist of multiple Sun Enterprise servers, which will run its SAP R/3 application, an Oracle database, as well as backup, production, test and sandbox environments. The SAP production database server environment includes clustered Sun Enterprise 6500 servers to provide high availability. The remainder SAP server environment includes multiple Sun Enterprise 4500 servers and the Sun Enterprise 3500 server. In addition, the server environment includes the Sun StorEdge A3500 system, providing over 1.5 terabytes of storage. Sun Professional Services will work with Raytheon Aircraft on systems architecture design services, and Sun Enterprise services is contracted to deliver 24X7 mission critical support services.
