SUN workstations for PC price

Palo Alto 14 Oct 99 Sun Microsystems has reduced the price of its Ultra 5 workstation to deliver the industry's first sub-$2,000 64-bit Unix workstation. Coupled with the SunPCi PC co-processor card, the Ultra 5 offers the flexibility of six different operating environments in a single box: the Solaris Operating Environment and the Java, Windows NT, Windows 95, DOS and Linux platforms.

According to Sun, the Ultra 5 workstation, the world's best selling Unix system, is ideal for cutting-edge software developers, enabling them to create, test and deploy their next-generation Internet applications for the Java, Solaris, Linux, DOS and various Windows environments on a single workstation.

With a 20 percent price drop, Sun's best-selling Ultra 5 workstation becomes the first Unix workstation available for less than $2,000 (list priced).

Sun's 64-bit Ultra workstation line is based on a system architecture which marries a fast processor, memory, graphics and I/O technologies to deliver powerful, stable, reliable workstations and outstanding graphics price/performance to all levels of computing user. Sun delivers complete scalability to the enterprise, from the $1,995 entry-level Ultra 5 workstation to the datacenter class 64-way Sun Enterprise 10,000 server.
