TurboCluster Server combines Linux with VI interface
San Jose 26 Oct 99 Giganet and TurboLinux will package cLAN drivers with TurboLinux's TurboCluster Server. The combination of cLAN and TurboCluster will provide for the first time, high performance Virtual Interface (VI) Architecture-based clustering for Linux environments.
The cLAN family is the first set of products to natively support VI in hardware, and will enable TurboLinux customers to achieve unprecedented performance from Linux server clusters. The VI Architecture is an industry standard that provides highly compute- intensive Linux applications (such as financial and scientific modeling) with a direct communications path that enables applications to bypass the operating system and remove excessive processing overhead. The benefits of implementing cLAN products with VI include ultra-high throughput and extremely low latency, delivering unprecedented performance and efficiency in a Linux cluster environment. TurboCluster Server is based on the popular TurboLinux Server, which has been extended to include components for advanced clustering that provide load balancing, scalability and high availability features. Through TurboLinux's commitment to supporting cLAN, enterprises can fully leverage the power of multiple TurboCluster Servers running in parallel and connected with ultra high performance/low latency VI links for optimal system efficiency and performance. The cLAN family of products enables businesses to assemble racks of Intel Servers into server farms for scalable and flexible computing. These server farms are an ideal low cost and highly efficient platform for Web hosting, scientific and technical applications most commonly found in Linux environments.
