Fujitsu Siemens post record SAP performance
Schwalbach 21 Oct 99 Fujitsu Siemens Computers makes its debut with a performance record certified by Walldorf-based SAP AG. The result for the SAP R/3 two-tier Sales and Distribution (SD) benchmark, achieved with model M600 of the new SPARC64 based GP7000F product line, is the highest result for large departmental servers with up to eight processors achieved to date. The GP7000F-M600 supports 430 SD benchmark users, the highest number of users ever supported with the SAP R/3 release 4.0B on a central server.
The benchmark was achieved using SAP's R/3 Sales & Distribution component release 4.0B and the Oracle 8.0.5 database, running the Solaris 7 operating system. The server GP7000F-M600 was configured with eight SPARC64 GP processors, running at 300 MHz. 430 SD benchmark users were supported with an average dialog response time of 1.97 seconds, which corresponds to 43130 fully processed order line items per hour. The CPU utilization of 99%, while still meeting the benchmark's response time limit of 2 seconds, adds to an outstanding price/performance ratio. This benchmark, which was performed at the Fujitsu Siemens enterprise server R&D facility in Paderborn, Germany, has been audited and certified by SAG AG. The R/3 Sales and Distribution benchmark is the most popular and important member of the SAP standard application benchmarks, simulating typical concurrent business transactions of SAP's R/3 sales and distribution component. The benchmark has been developed by SAP, as a means of measuring and comparing the R/3 performance across different hardware platforms and different R/3 releases. The benchmark emulates customer szenarios. In a two-tier configuration the R/3 application and the database share one central server. An additional server is used as a terminal emulator system handling input, output processing and think times of the virtual users. With up to eight CPUs and up to eight GB of memory, the GP7000F-M600 is the large departmental or division server of the new GP7000F product family.
