CINECA celebrates 30th anniversary
Bologna 03 Nov 99 Italy's largest supercomputer centre CINECA, celebrates on November 25th and 26th the 30th Anniversary of its foundation with the organization of two special events: "Crossing the Millennium Milestone" and the Fifth ARCADE (Academic Research Computing Advanced facilities Discussion Group Europe) meeting.
CINECA, founded in 1969, is the most important Italian supercomputing centre for public and private research activities, ranking with the world's major research institutions. CINECA is a consortium gathering 15 of the leading Italian Universities (Ancona, Bologna, Catania, Ferrara, Florence, Macerata, Messina, Modena, Padua, Parma, Siena, Trento, Trieste, Udine, Venice). On November 25th and 26th of this year CINECA will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of its foundation with the organization of two special events. On November 25th there is a debate on "Crossing the Millennium Milestone" where a reflection on the future perspectives of the HPC, from both the architecture producers and the computational scientist point of view, will be attempted. On November 26th, the Fifth ARCADE (Academic Research Computing Advanced facilities Discussion Group Europe) meeting will be organised, in the same spirit of the previous ones: an informal atmosphere, with a reasonable balance of plenary sessions and round tables to stimulate common work between the representatives of the main European Academic Computing Centres.
