Compaq enhances Alpha servers and announced Enterprise Toolkit Version 2.0
Cupertino 05 Nov 99 Version 2.0 of the Compaq Enterprise Toolkit - Unix Edition (Enterprise Toolkit) is now available,
offering a range of new features. More importantly, Compaq announces major performance enhancements for
AlphaServer GS Series systems. On the Compaq AlphaServer GS140 an GS60E system, the Alpha EV6 processor speed increased from 525 MHz to 700 MHz.On applications Compaq reports
30 to 40% application performance gain.
It now:
- Supports Visual C++ Version 6.0 and Compaq Visual Fortran Version 6.1
- Builds applications for Tru64 UNIX, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, and Red Hat Linux
- Runs on Windows
- Includes Component Monitor for developing COM-based distributed applications
- Includes Visual Threads for debugging threaded applications on Tru64 UNIX
More importantly, Compaq announces major performance enhancements for
AlphaServer GS Series systems:
For the Compaq AlphaServer GS140 system:
- Alpha EV6 processor speed increased from 525 MHz to 700 MHz
- Onboard cache size doubled from 4 MB to 8 MB
- 30 to 40% application performance gain
- SPECint performance up 40% (from 27.9 to 39.1)
- SPECfp single-CPU performance up 50% (from 45.2 to 68.1)
For the Compaq AlphaServer GS60E system:
- Alpha EV6 processor speed increased from 525 MHz to 700 MHz
- Onboard cache size doubled from 4 MB to 8 MB
- Maximum processors increased from 6 to 8, with 8 GB of memory
- 30 to 40% application performance gain
- SPECint performance up 40% (from 27.9 to 39.1)
- SPECfp single-CPU performance up 50% (from 45.2 to 68.1)
