NEC SX-5 parallel vector processor begins operation at Toyota

Tokyo 29 Oct 99 Toyota Auto Body Co., a manufacturer of auto bodies and parts for the Toyota group has inaugurated the operation of their new SX-5S/2 parallel vector supercomputer.

Toyota Auto Body Co.,Ltd. focuses on recreational vehicles and one-box type automobile bodies, and associated parts. The SX-5S is utilized exclusively for crash analysis and will contribute to enhancing vehicle safety, reduced development costs, and shorter development turn-around time by reducing the number of physical crash tests required on prototype vehicles, and by providing rapid application execution to enable enhanced design optimizations over multiple parameters.

Automobile manufacturers worldwide have become major customers for NEC SX Series Parallel Vector Processor Supercomputer systems because of their true supercomputer performance and highly competitive price-performance. More than 30 systems have been installed in the automotive sector for such well known names as DaimlerChrysler (Mercedes-Benz), Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo, Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, and Subaru, as well as their key associated group companies and first tier suppliers.

The SX-5S is a member of the SX-5 Series product family that is optimized to provide the highest possible performance on industrially important third party applications such as those used by automotive manufacturers.
