Platform Computing partners with QSW and Compaq

Portland 15 Nov 99 Platform Computing announced a collaboration with Compaq Computer Corporation and QSW to provide an alternative to the cost and rigidity of traditional supercomputer systems. The solution, a combination of scheduling and load management software married with Compaq hardware, enables organizations to effectively manage available computing resources within a clustered environment.

QSW's Resource Management System (RMS) and QsNet switch have been integrated by Compaq in the AlphaServer SC series. This combination, along with Platform's Load Sharing Facility (LSF) allows for a reliable, robust high-performance environment for users, while also providing a level of flexibility that is unprecedented in traditional supercomputing-class environments. This is accomplished through a strong integration between workload management (LSF) and resource management (RMS) software, and QSW's QsNet - a high bandwidth, ultra low latency interconnect for commodity SMP nodes.

"Embraced by the industry, LSF has proven itself as the global standard for providing sophisticated job management across a cluster of machines," says Dr. John Taylor, Product Manager, QSW. "The combination of these products with LSF will ensure optimum usage of all available resources within a computer center's operation - including supercomputing. AlphaServer SC has formed yet another resource within the LSF domain."

Combined, RMS and LSF provide a coherent view of existing network resources – rendering a collection of computers into a single system. Together the production control software provides systems administrators and users with the necessary environment required for supercomputer installations.

Adds Ty Rabe, Director of High Performance Computer Marketing, Compaq Computer Corporation, "The combination of LSF and RMS with the AlphaServer SC series is a key element of Compaq's strategy to provide leadership in the single-system scalable supercomputing market."
