SGI claims leadership in TOP250
Portland 16 Nov 99 Nice thing about the TOP500 is that anyone on it can be a leader in his own right. SGI claims leadership in performance: the company delivered more processing power than Compaq, IBM and Sun combined. In total, SGI ystems represent nearly 20 Tflop/s, or 38.4 percent of the total installed performance. The company also claims to dominate the upper half of the TOP500 list.
Released separately today at the Supercomputer '99 conference in Portland, Oregon, the "Top 500 Supercomputing Sites" list also reports that with SGI's Origin, Cray T90 and Cray T3E systems the company remains the dominant vendor on the upper end of the semi-annual list. SGI holds 133 of the top 500 sites, over one-quarter of the total sites represented by 10 supercomputing companies worldwide. Of those, the company represents six of the top 10 sites, 27 of the top 50 and 42 of the top 100, SGI says.
