Jaguar buys for over $8 million HP systems to support new CAD system

Coventry, 01 December 98 Car manufacturer Jaguar has purchased more than $8 million in Unix system workstations and servers from HP. The systems support Jaguar's C3P -- a new computer aided design (CAD) software suite for car design, using virtual prototyping technology.

Using virtual prototyping technology for better visualization of CAD geometry (predominantly solids), Jaguar can perform better predictive engineering and crash simulations before building physical prototypes and, as a result, realize cost reductions.

Jaguar claims that its C3P program represents a major expansion of its design and development programme at its engineering center in Whitley, Coventry, England. The most recent HP systems procurement consists of 250 HP VISUALIZE Model C240 workstations. Jaguar has also adopted HP server technology to support its design program, for which it is using a K-Class server with EMC RAID for its CAE file server; and an S-Class and two V-Class servers for crash analysis.

Jaguar is replacing it's product design systems with a suite of tools called C3P based around SDRC I-Deas Master Series. Jaguar worked with HP for over nine years now in the CAD area.
