MIPS opens Danish technology center with former LSI Logic staff

Copenhagen, 11 November 98 MIPS Technologies will officially open its MIPS Denmark Development Center (MDDC) in Copenhagen on December 1, 1998. The Danish team is comprised of 24 full time employees, who were formerly part of LSI Logic Corporation.

The Danish team is known for its low power MIPS architecture, core, and system on chip (SOC) design, as well as its customer deliverables. As part of LSI Logic, the Danish has been responsible for a number of designs, including TinyRISC and also was a contributor in LSI to the development of EJTAG 2.0 Debug Standard.

The MDDC will work on developments for MIPS as well as providing support and design knowledge for European-based MIPS customers. LSI Logic and MIPS are working closely to ensure a smooth transition of the team. MIPS Technologies is working on an agreement to provide support to LSI Logic Corporation during this period.

MIPS headquarters are based in Mountain View, California. According to Andrew Allison's report: Inside the New Computer Industry, MIPS processors comprised 49 percent of the total 32/64-bit RISC architecture shipments. In 1997 48 million units were shipped. With the new base in Denmark MIPS tries to further strengthen it's position in Europe.
