Mathwise v2.1 teaches Math to undergraduates

Oxford, 08 December 98 The Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG) launched Mathwise, the computer based learning package for undergraduates of Mathematics in Engineering and the Sciences. The software provides a learning environment for the teaching of Mathematics. Mathwise runs on PCs running Windows 95.

Mathwise is based on the SEFI (European Society for Engineering Education) syllabus, and designed and developed by universities in the UK using state-of-the-art teaching methods.

Mathwise consists of modules, each typically comprising 5 hours of study. These include a range of activities including interactive elements, animated graphics and self-assessment exercises. The package benefits from a courseware management system, which handles cross-referencing between the different components of the system. This Courseware Manager also enables additional material to be added to Mathwise allowing the software to be tailor made for local needs at individual sites.

The modules on the pre-calculus CD-ROM are: real numbers and algebra, inequalities, polynomials, powers and logs, trigonometric functions, complex numbers, basic vector algebra, graphs of functions and mathematical biographies.
