Informix and Siemens partner in business unit

Munchen, 15 December 98 Informix and Siemens have formalised their 16-year lasting collaboration by creating a worldwide business unit in Munchen. This organisation will design and develop packages based on the Informix range of databases and the servers produced by Siemens - including the NT servers from the Primergy range and Unix servers from the RM range.

As well as a combination of hardware and software products, during the introductory phase the customer will be provided with advice via a Competence Centre, together with support with operation of the packages. This Competence Centre will be responsible for Pre-Sales Support and technical management of the joint range of products.

The business unit will be supplying packages for markets such as telecommunications, public administration and ERP. Formation of the business unit further strengthens the long-standing partnership between Siemens and Informix, which stretches back over 16 years. The companies already worked together in joint development and data transfer teams in the USA, Ireland and Germany.

The unit will commence operations with 3 sales programmes: The Informix Dynamic 4GL Programme, The Tribase/Baan Base Upgrade Programme and Customer Care and Billing. The Informix 4GL package will be transitioned to Dynamic 4 GL, in wich 4 GL users will be able to generate graphical applications using their existing character-based applications. In the future it will be possible to generate Web-compatible applications with HTML and JAVA. The Tribase/Baan Base Upgrade Programme will include an option to upgrade the Baan database to a high-performance Informix database.

For the fields of Customer Care and Billing in the telecommunications industry, Siemens and Informix is offering a range of packages - Atmosphera - which is based on the 64-bit technologies developed by the two companies.
