Sun opens new campus
Palo Alto, 18 November 98
Sun broke ground at its newest campus located in Santa Clara at the former site of Agnews Developmental Center. The new campus is well positioned to leverage the Bay Area's highly concentrated engineering workforce and Silicon Valley's economy. Other Sun campuses currently under development include Newark, Broomfield and Burlington in the United States and Farnborough, England.
The campus represents a public/private partnership: Sun and Santa Clara worked cooperatively to develop this project. Development of Sun's new campus will be done in a phased approach. Phase one will consist of approximately 642,000 square feet and includes the construction of six new buildings and the rehabilitation of four existing buildings. The second phase of development will consist of the construction of two new buildings and approximately 363,000 square feet. At full capacity, the new campus will be comprised of approximately 1 million square feet and accommodate approximately 3,600 employees. Sun currently has 27,000 employees worldwide, with approximately 13,000 located in the Bay Area.
