Compaq Offers Tru64 Unix License to Non-Commercial Users

Houstin 04 Nov 99 Compaq announced it will license its Tru64 UNIX V5.0 operating system for technology enthusiasts, educational learning purposes, and other non-commercial users at a nominal cost of $99.00 plus shipping and handling to give users access to the powerful features and functions of Compaq Tru64 UNIX on AlphaServer.

This license and media-available now in North America and worldwide in December 1999-includes:

  • the Compaq Tru64 UNIX V5.0 operating system
  • a full suite of developers tools through the Tru64 UNIX Developers Kit
  • server extensions
  • the most current Internet products on the market today through Compaq's Open Source Internet Solutions (OSIS)

OSIS provides a complete suite of Internet software, from "Apache" to "sendmail," giving users virtually every capability needed to create an Internet presence without having to invest in additional products.

Compaq Tru64 UNIX V5.0, the newest version of this industry-leading 64-bit operating system, dramatically simplifies system management by offering a choice of management interfaces, including Web-based operations. It substantially reduces the complexity of installation, setup, and management; reduces the total cost of ownership by offering tools with a common look and feel; and offers automation, which minimizes the need for training.
