Innovative Web-based analytic tool able to link drugs to diagnosis

Atlanta 24 January 2000National Data Corporation (NDC) Health Information Services and PharMetrics Inc. have established an agreement to co-develop and co-market a web-based business-to-business analytical tool measuring pharmaceutical brand performance by linking diagnosis to prescription use.

NDC brings to the venture its expertise in the development and marketing of web-based health information solutions and its understanding of the needs of pharmaceutical manufacturers and marketers. Fuelling this product will be non-identifiable patient-level information summarised from PharMetrics' integrated outcomes database.

The database constructs episodes of disease histories from medical as well as pharmacy claims data using an industry-leading analytic methodology employed by over 280 managed care organisations. This database contains encrypted medical and pharmaceutical claims data on more than 10 million non-identified patients representing over 100 million episodes of disease.

"Our freshly closed partnership with NDC helps us in leveraging our unique information assets and deliver what so many in the pharmaceutical industry have been asking for, namely a tool which assists in tracking the impact of prescription drug use on total patient care using clinically-based information", said Jim Stowe, president and CEO of PharMetrics.

Walter M. Hoff, CEO of NDC Health Information Services, stated: "We are pleased to join forces with PharMetrics to provide pharmaceutical brand management, market and outcomes researchers with this innovative tool that produces the answers needed to profile and target their marketing plans for greater strategic and tactical business success. This unique information solution brings the health care industry one step closer to achieving the goal of continually improving patient outcomes and streamlining costs."

PharMetrics, a venture-backed private company based in Boston, delivers next generation disease-specific information products derived from episodes based on longitudinal clinical and financial data. PharMetrics works with many top pharmaceutical companies and health plans in the United States. National Data Corporation is a major provider of health information services and electronic commerce solutions which add better value to its customers' operations.
