Hoag Hospital's nine hundred staff physicians, including the region's largest Independent Physician Association, will utilise ChartMaxx both on site at the hospital, as well as accessing the system remotely from their offices and homes through an Internet-based virtual private network. MedPlus will interface ChartMaxx with 10 of Hoag's existing sub-systems to capitalise on the full benefits of ChartMaxx's functionality without requiring any major changes to legacy systems.

These existing sub-systems pertain to department-specific documentation, such as the physician orders, laboratory and radiology reports, nursing notations, emergency care reports, patient accounting and other clinical and administrative documentation. In addition to utilising ChartMaxx for medical record management, once the system is installed Hoag will be electronically archiving past patient account records into ChartMaxx.

Richard A. Mahoney, Chairman and CEO for MedPlus Inc. commented that he is pleased to have ChartMaxx selected by one of the most well respected medical centres serving the Southern California region. "The Hoag Hospital reputation as a leading provider of cancer, heart, orthopaedic and women's health services, as well as the region's premiere provider of gamma knife surgery, attracts both physicians and patients to utilise the hospital. ChartMaxx will enable expedient access by staff physicians to patient tests and other information critical in making fast and accurate diagnoses."

MedPlus is an e-health, business-to-business provider of enterprise-wide private health record systems compliant with proposed Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulation. Via the Internet, the Company's ChartMaxx system provides access to critical clinical data on a patient-centric basis for all care providers, thus enhancing clinical care productivity.

MedPlus has implemented the ChartMaxx and OptiMaxx, for records storage and retrieval, products and services in over 125 hospitals throughout North America. ChartMaxx has also been introduced in the United Kingdom.
