QuadraMed's integrated AFFINITY HIS solution to better streamline hospital work flow

San Rafael 23 October 2000Glenwood Regional Medical Center, in West Monroe, Louisiana, has selected QuadraMed's AFFINITY health care information system (HIS) solution to manage the Medical Center's financial and patient information needs and enhance the efficiency of its patient accounting functions. The QuadraMed Corporation forms a leading health care information systems company which is dedicated to linking hospitals to their constituents. The contract, including the implementation of AFFINITY's patient accounting, medical records, registration, and financial modules, is valued at more than $2 million and marks the Medical Center's third implementation of a QuadraMed product.

QuadraMed's AFFINITY HIS solution seamlessly integrates a hospital's clinical, financial, and patient information systems from a single, patient-centred database providing the administrators with a content-rich, longitudinal view of the enterprise's data. According to Glenwood Regional Medical Center's chief information officer, Carlos Bodine, aside from the rich financial management features, it was AFFINITY's ability to integrate with the Medical Center's multiple information systems that spurred its selection over two major HIS vendors.

"Glenwood Regional Medical Center uses a multitude of best-of-class and niche applications to satisfy our information needs; communication between these disparate solutions therefore is vital", commented Mr. Bodine. "AFFINITY provided the best solution for the hospital's needs. Additionally, its ability to integrate with our existing QuadraMed solutions, including nCoder+ and APCAnalyzer+, further streamlines work flow and communications."

The implementation of AFFINITY follows Glenwood Regional Medical Center's purchase of nCoder+ and APCAnalyzer+ as well as the engagement for QuadraMed to perform Master Patient Index (MPI) Clean-up services.

"Glenwood Regional Medical Center's commitment to implementing only the best-of-class solutions, and the ease with which AFFINITY fits into that Medical Center's platform, demonstrates the product's flexibility, while equally showcasing the easy integration of other QuadraMed products and services", commented QuadraMed's Chief Marketing Officer, Frank Pecaitis. "We appreciate the opportunity to expand our work with Glenwood, as an excellent example of our customer's recognition of the incremental value of our software and services portfolio."

Over 2000 hospital chief information officers recently recognised AFFINITY as a top software solution amongst "Major Acute Care" vendors. In its Spring 2000 Healthcare Info Tech Top 20 Report, KLAS Enterprises, a health care industry research company which monitors IT vendors, awarded AFFINITY seven points out of nine, based on several categories, which placed it above competitors such as Meditech, Siemens/SMS, Cerner and McKesson HBOC. AFFINITY's Spring 2000 ranking marks the second time in a year that the QuadraMed solution received top billing from KLAS. It is the only instance of a vendor achieving the no. 1 ranking in two consecutive reports.

Glenwood Regional Medical Center initially was established as a non-profit corporation, first known as "Glenwood Hospital". Citizens in Ward Five of Ouachita Parish passed a $1.2 million bond issue in September 1959, to pay for the construction of the facility. In addition to that, they voted a 1/2 million tax over five years to finance the operation of the hospital for that period. In September 1962, Glenwood Hospital began operation as a 102-bed facility with 60 employees. From humble beginnings, Glenwood has grown into a full service 259-bed acute-care facility.
