VueCare's tele-health solution helps home health agencies lower costs

Pittsburgh 20 October 2000Tender Loving Care Health Care Services Inc. (TLCS) of New York has signed an exclusive agreement with VueCare Inc. based in Pennsylvania, for the implementation of the latter company's turnkey video-based tele-health equipment, management software, proven clinical pathways and policies and procedures at Tender Loving Care's home health locations. The contract was closed on the heels of the implementation of the Prospective Payment System (PPS) for home care providers on October 1st by the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA).

PPS has changed the payment structure for home health care from a reimbursement model to an outcome based fixed payment per episode model. This creates an entirely new set of incentives driving the home health agencies to both contain costs and document patient care outcomes. These agencies are actively seeking solutions which will help them meet this kind of challenges. VueCare offers a proven solution.

"High quality, compassionate care has always been a hallmark of the TLCS", commented Chairman and CEO Stephen Savitsky. "Cost containment is even more important to us, as we are now operating under the new PPS reimbursement system. The VueCare system will help us in our efforts to restore our patients to optimum health within their familiar home environment and even improve the quality of care which we provide and will do so in a cost effective manner."

Rather than replacing TLCS' traditional in-home health care, VueCare's tele-health services complement and augment patient care in a manner which improves patient outcomes and satisfaction, enhances patient information flow, reduces emergency room visits and hospital read missions, and lowers overall health care costs.

The TLCS home health care nurse will install the technical equipment during a scheduled patient visit and provide the patient with instructions on how to operate the system. The patient unit allows TLCS to establish an immediate video link to the patient, thereby providing needed care in many situations without actually visiting the home. The patient simply answers the telephone just as he or she would in a normal telephone call and all video functions are controlled remotely by the nurse care manager, physical therapist or another health care provider. Likewise, the patients are able to immediately access their care provider, should they require immediate care, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

"We are very excited to partner with TLCS to offer this state-of-the-art approach to care delivery", stated Anthony M. Sanzo, who is VueCare President and CEO. "We are confident that VueCare's technological solutions will become invaluable tools to the leading home health agencies nationwide, and we admire TLCS' leadership in integrating new technologies into their care plans. TLCS commitment to patient care and responsible resource management is evident throughout their national network of 93 locations. We are delighted to have this opportunity to work with them to both improve quality and reduce cost."
