"This agreement allows us to provide the highest quality of care to our patients in the most cost-effective method possible", stated Lieutenant Colonel Kerry K. Larson, a medical doctor with the United States Air Force who is the Department Head of the Telemedicine and Technology Assessment Office for TRICARE Region Nine.
"We are proud to be associated with the United States Military, one of the most well recognised and respected institutions in the world", stated Dirk Voorhees, E-Ceptionist's President and Chief Executive Officer. E-Ceptionist enables the military health care system to shift away from the traditional "hub and spoke" model to a "Virtual Web" network in which any primary care site can be connected to any available appointment time at any speciality facility. As such, the military will be able to maximise the utilisation and benefit of their specialists.
E-Ceptionist will initially be serving TRICARE Region Nine, comprised of a geographical area approximately 200 miles in diameter and composed of over 700.000 beneficiaries. The region includes six medical treatment facilities and over forty branch medical clinics. The referral centre for Region Nine is the Naval Medical Center San Diego.
TRICARE is the health care programme that is shared by all of the uniformed service members in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines, Coast Guard, the Public Health Service, as well as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Those who are eligible for TRICARE include active duty uniformed service members and their families, uniformed service retirees and their families, and survivors of uniformed service members who are not eligible for Medicare.
E-Ceptionist Inc. was founded in May of 1999 as a privately held company located in Bellaire, Texas. The company owns and licenses the E-Ceptionist scheduling service that allows doctors and patients to schedule health care appointments in real time over the Internet. The service is secure and encrypted and the privacy of patient information is protected. E-Ceptionist can be embedded in an organisation's existing Intranet site or set up as an Extranet to give an organisation real time scheduling functionality.
The service enables primary care office staff to identify available specialist appointment times by speciality type, day of the week, time of day, doctor, and other custom criteria. It also provides real time electronic confirmation and notification of appointments between the primary and the speciality physicians, and the health plan.
E-Ceptionist Inc. currently provides the E-Ceptionist scheduling service to WellPoint on behalf of its affiliate, Blue Cross of California. You can read more about this partnership in the VMW December 2000 article E-Ceptionist to launch real time Web-based telemedicine scheduling service across California.
