Veritas Medicine and PCRS partner to facilitate patient enrolment in clinical trials

Boston 26 March 2001Veritas Medicine, an extensive on-line clinical trials and treatment resource for patients, physicians and pharmaceutical companies, has signed a contract with Physicians Clinical Research Solutions (PCRS), a network of physicians and research sites in North America. Under the agreement, the Veritas Medicine proprietary on-line database of investigative treatment options, clinical trials and comprehensive content will be linked with PCRS' newly launched Web site, RapidTrials.com to be launched in June, 2001. The goal of this collaboration is to maximise qualified patient enrolment and physician participation in essential clinical research.

Veritas Medicine offers patients and their physicians access to a contextualised and highly secure database which helps individuals match themselves with appropriate clinical trials in over 30 serious, chronic disease states. PCRS' network of over 200 health care organisations, 600 study locations, and 20.000 physicians will now gain expedited on-line access to the Veritas Medicine Web site. This will help doctors more easily determine whether specific clinical trials may be appropriate for their patients, while also introducing free, original and comprehensive health information of value to patient and physician alike.

Veritas Medicine's secure and robust information on available clinical trials perfectly complements PCRS' commitment to supporting physicians and research sites in identifying and tracking performance on clinical trials, as stated by Tracy Blumenfeld, president and Chief Executive Officer of PCRS. "Our affiliation of doctors can now rely on Veritas Medicine to connect them with appropriate patient referrals, for the clinical trials that they are involved in."

Soon to be launched by PCRS, RapidTrials.com is a virtual community of physicians, study co-ordinators, and biopharmaceutical companies which qualifies physicians to participate as site and clinical investigators. The Web site brings physicians together with trial-sponsoring biopharmaceutical, genomic, medical device, and diagnostic companies.

"Our agreement with PCRS is a logical one since we share the same ultimate goal which is advancing clinical research through informed patient participation", commented Dr. Joe Avellone, president and CEO of Veritas Medicine. "Through our collaboration, we expect to see more doctors participating in exciting research and an improved patient enrolment process based on informed choices."

Located in Wayne, Pennsylvania, PCRS is a clinical research investigator network and site-support organisation. The company's technology and consulting teams offer pharmaceutical companies and health care providers a comprehensive resource for developing research capabilities, training study co-ordinators and principal investigators, as well as securing clinical trial protocols. Through RapidTrials.com, PCRS' clients will possess the ability to access real time clinical trial performance metrics. PCRS was founded in 1996 and is privately held.

Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Veritas Medicine is a comprehensive on-line medical resource developed to address the needs of patients, doctors, and other health care professionals and pharmaceutical sponsors through a centralised and highly secure on-line resource that provides expert, reliable and up-to-date information about clinical trials and innovative treatments. The company is backed by Burrill & Company, BioAsia's Biotechnology Development Fund II and E-Health Holdings Fund, Cambridge Incubator, Seaflower Ventures and MDS Capital.
