Starting from July 2001, employers of expatriates within the Saudi Arabian kingdom are required to provide private health insurance to their expatriate employees in a gradual process that will cover all expatriates in three years. The Saudi health care industry does not currently have the systems in place to launch these processes on a national scale. As a result, MedFormatix, with the aid of XCare.net, intends to be first to market with their solutions.

Under the agreement, XCare.net will create the MedFormatix prototype portal site using its XTiera platform technology, an end-to-end, integrated platform solution built on an XML-based architecture that offers flexibility, scalability, security, and dynamic multi-branding capability. This site will enable seamless connection of health care providers, hospitals, dispensaries and solo clinics systems involved in e-health transactions.

"MedFormatix was keen on finding a leading-edge, Web-based solution rather than duplicate the paper-based system that is epidemic in the United States", commented Lorine Sweeney, president and CEO of XCare.net. "XCare.net will provide the core technology to MedFormatix in an effort to help satisfy the emerging needs of the Saudi health care industry."

"By 2004, the number of expatriates insured is expected to reach six million, up 600 percent from today", said Wassim Ibrahim Khashoggi, CEO of MedFormatix. "We believe XCare's XTiera to be the technology of choice for our forward-thinking national health care initiative. Our Web portal will give Saudi physicians and hospitals instant and cost-effective access to information which will help them meet the needs of their patients. XTiera's XML-based open architecture and end-to end solution was the ideal choice for our complex requirements and allows us to create a connectivity and communications hub which will benefit all participants in the Saudi health care system."

XCare.net is a provider of strategic e-business portals and business-to-business Internet solutions. The company builds mission-critical Web sites using its XML-based XTiera Platform. The customised strategic portals are tailored to enhance the customer's brand, to process high-value transactions and offer innovative applications. In addition to cost savings, XCare.net facilitates revenue-generating opportunities for organisations through the strategic portals built using the XCare.net XTiera Platform.
