Numoda handheld devices help North Philadelphia Health System save time and money

Philadelphia 13 November 2001North Philadelphia Health System (NPHS) has issued the results of a joint pilot project with Numoda Corporation that incorporated Numoda mobile wireless health care technologies, CareLink, into the everyday environment of the hospital setting. The outcomes clearly demonstrated that the cutting-edge technology brought the health system greater revenue as well as substantial savings and improved quality.

NPHS can now generate quality reports in ten minutes. Before the Numoda solution, reports took an average of three hours to produce. "Saving time means saving money in health care", stated George Walmsley III, President and CEO, NPHS. "Because of this, CareLink helps us provide our community with the very best health care and that is why we are here."

NPHS provides medical services to one of the most under-served communities in Philadelphia. NPHS is not only a health care provider, but is a major employer and economic anchor in the North Philadelphia community.

"I knew this technology would be a great help to our nurses and physicians before we even started", stated Marva James, speaking about the Quality Management project at St. Joseph's Hospital, a 146 bed acute care facility. "What I did not know was that handheld devices have a way of benefiting many of the processes they are around, such as eliminating service delays that result in reductions in lengths of stay. We have information to make decisions more quickly."

North Philadelphia Health System is comprised of two hospitals located in the heart of North Philadelphia, Girard Medical Center (GMC), a 168 bed long-term acute care hospital and 59 bed skilled nursing facility, and St. Joseph's Hospital (SJH), a 146 bed acute care hospital. First created in 1849, SJH remains as one of the city's oldest continuously operating hospitals.

"I knew that we would be able to help our neighbours at NPHS fulfill their mission as a premier health care provider", stated Mary Schaheen, CEO of Numoda. "We have proven our abilities, including four of the 100 largest companies in the world as customers, but working with NPHS was particularly rewarding. It is always nice when you have an opportunity to help out right at home."

Numoda Corporation software, systems and services attack the weaknesses of data collection, distribution and integration within an organisation by using their wireless handheld data systems to provide point-of-service collection and one-time data entry, with instant delivery of that information to the enterprise database, unlike desktop, laptop or cradle-based systems. Reports are instantly available and can be customised as desired.

Numoda products provide full access and customisable query capabilities of corporate databases. Numoda technologies deliver not only great flexibility and immediacy, but also significant cost reductions, improved data quality, reliability, and speed. Numoda has Fortune 500 customers in the pharmaceutical, health care, financial services and insurance industries, and government.
