Office Medic database Small Office Edition to complement QRS PC Card medical device platform

Plymouth 06 February 2002QRS Diagnostic, developer and distributor of software-based diagnostic and monitoring medical devices, has launched Office Medic Small Office Edition. Small Office Edition provides solutions for small businesses that wish to network their Office Medic database. Office Medic is an Integrated Data Management System (IDMS) which captures real time patient data using QRS PC Card medical devices. Office Medic IDMS allows health care practitioners to perform ECG, spirometry, pulse oximetry, and more from any workstation using a networked computer.

Small Office Edition, one of two versions of Office Medic IDMS, utilises Microsoft SQL 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) and allows as many as five concurrent users to access the Office Medic database residing on the network.

QRS recently released another version of Office Medic IDMS. Enterprise Edition, available as a licensed application, uses Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Database architecture. The scalable architecture offers virtually unlimited storage and performs well in both small clinics and large institutions. This scalability gives Enterprise Edition the ability to grow as an enterprise evolves.

"The Office Medic Small Office Edition is a significant addition to the QRS software platform", stated Patrick Lichter, QRS Chief Technology Officer. "This solution provides a low-cost option to a networked environment and allows our customers to easily migrate to the QRS Enterprise Edition as their needs grow."

Office Medic IDMS is targeted toward clinic administrators and health care information technologists faced with the challenges of increasing efficiency, decreasing costs, and improving patient care. The system provides a solution to these challenges by offering more timely intervention and initiation of appropriate treatment, reducing time spent in data retrieval, and utilising standardised data collection and reporting.

The latest release of Office Medic also includes the company's Software Developer's Kit (SDK). The SDK enables Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to seamlessly integrate QRS PC Card medical devices and Office Medic with third-party software such as electronic medical records, telemedicine, and disease management programmes.

QRS specialises in software-based medical devices that seamlessly integrate with off-the-shelf PCs, handheld computers, and Internet appliances. The company's PC Card medical device platform is used worldwide as a cost-effective and portable means of acquiring and communicating physiological data such as spirometry, oximetry, and electrocardiograph.

Founded in 1994 and privately held, QRS designs, develops and distributes a broad range of diagnostic and monitoring medical devices for health care providers and chronic disease management in the home. QRS is focused on simplifying and reducing the cost of medical technology while maintaining the essentials of accuracy and detail demanded by health care providers.
