TheraSense and Health Hero Network team up for diabetes data monitoring and patient management

Alameda 21 November 2002TheraSense Inc., specialised in blood glucose monitoring and maker of the popular, virtually pain-free FreeStyle blood glucose monitoring system, and Health Hero Network Inc., the developer of award-winning technology solutions for health monitoring, have signed a license contract. Under the agreement, Health Hero Network has granted to TheraSense a co-exclusive license in the field of diabetes to Health Hero's extensive patent portfolio relating to medical data monitoring and patient management.

In addition, Health Hero has agreed to extend its Health Buddy product line to include download capabilities compatible with TheraSense's FreeStyle and FreeStyle Tracker glucose monitoring products.

Health Hero Network Inc., founded in 1988 and headquartered in Mountain View, California, develops and licenses industry-leading technology solutions for health monitoring and management. The Health Hero technology platform offers Internet-enabled care management tools, multiple patient interfaces, and a secure environment for data communications.

The company's product line includes Health Buddy, Health Buddy Web, and other licensee devices for data collection and communications with patients, and iCare Desktop, an Internet-based care management and research solution for health care professionals. In Canada and the United Kingdom, the FreeStyle system is distributed through wholly owned TheraSense subsidiaries. The FreeStyle system is distributed in various European countries by Disetronic Group, a provider of insulin pumps in Europe. In Japan, the FreeStyle system is distributed by Nipro Corporation, the Japanese market leader in dialysis and insulin pumps.
