Sectra signs co-operation with European health IT supplier Torex and Mirada image fusion Solutions

Linkoping 13 December 2002The Swedish IT and medical technology company Sectra has signed a partnership agreement with the United Kingdom-based Torex Health company, one of Europe's major suppliers of health IT. Torex Health currently has the largest installed base of hospital information system clients in the United Kingdom and the Torex strategy is increasingly focused on clinical systems. Sectra also has widened its Clinical Solutions Network by signing a co-operation agreement with Mirada Solutions Ltd., an Oxford-based medical software development company. Through the agreement, Mirada's solution for image fusion is fully integrated into Sectra's system for handling digital x-ray images.

Through the first partnership, Sectra's system for handling and archiving digital radiology images (PACS) will be fully integrated with Torex's system for clinical patient information in Torex Hospital and Radiology Information systems. The images will be fully integrated into the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) that is being delivered to Torex British hospital customers. Integration of the Sectra PACS solution and Torex software with the EPR will widen access to key clinical diagnostics. Under the partnership, Torex will sell and install Sectra systems as a strategic core component for image management in its own overall IT solutions in the United Kingdom and Irish markets.

"With this kind of partnerships, we enable integrated digital image management in large scale IT solutions for health care. Total hospital integration like this is in high demand in the market", stated Dr. Torbjorn Kronander, President of Sectra Imtec AB. "By working with Torex, a very competent HIS partner, we can complement our existing partnerships in radiology with a new important segment, hospital IT providers. Resulting in top of the line integrated health care infrastructure for the United Kingdom health care market."

"Sectra's digital radiology system complements our own market leading product set", stated Steve Garrington, Managing Director of Torex European Health Division. "Sectra has garnered numerous top rankings for their PACS solution in customer surveys and expert market evaluations. This partnership enables us to offer our present and future customers in the United Kingdom and Ireland one of the best PACS solutions available."

The second partnership involves the medical image fusion market. Mirada's Fusion7D solution provides rigid and deformable image fusion for CT, PET, SPECT and MRI applications. Included within the Fusion7D package is a range of 3D visualisation and measurement tools to maximise the clinical and diagnostic value of multi-modal registration and fusion.

"With the Sectra Clinical Solutions Network, we aim at maximising the benefits that users derive from our PACS connected workstations by being able to offer a broad range of highly specialised clinical applications that can be seamlessly integrated into our workstations", stated Dr. Kronander.

"Our advanced image fusion technology integrated with one of the leading PACS platforms improves the accessibility of our technology to United States and European customers alike", stated Christian Behrenbruch, Ph.D., Vice President of Product Development for Mirada Solutions Ltd. "This increases customer satisfaction."

The Clinical Solutions Network (CSN) is the unifying concept of Sectra's co-operation with third party vendors connected to the Sectra software products in the medical field. Sectra provides open software products for radiology applications with interfaces that third party actors easily can integrate to. The CSN invites both commercial and researching actors to develop new functionality connected to the Sectra software solutions.

Sectra is one of today's major PACS providers with more than 300 PACS installations worldwide. More than 15 million exams are diagnosed in Sectra PACS every year throughout the world. The Swedish based company operates through partners in most of the world, but delivers directly to end customers in Northern Europe. The core business is to deliver top-of-the-line high-availability, robust enterprise PACS for 24/7 operation.

In Sweden and Norway, which are currently the countries with the largest penetration of PACS in the world, Sectra holds a dominant market leadership with more than 50 percent of all film free installations. The company has its largest number of installed systems in Sweden, Norway, and the United States through partners, but has also an installed base in Germany, Finland, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Turkey, Portugal, Switzerland, and the Far East.
