Stryker Howmedica Osteonics launches on-line Joint Replacement Resource Center

Kalamazoo 15 January 2003Stryker Corporation's division, Stryker Howmedica Osteonics, a provider of orthopaedic implants, has launched an on-line Joint Replacement Resource Center. The sponsored Resource Center, aimed at educating patients on joint replacement therapies for hips, knees and shoulders, provides content developed by Stryker Howmedica Osteonics.

With increasing numbers of consumers undergoing various joint replacement procedures, the site is designed to help patients, potential patients and caregivers make better-informed medical decisions as they work with their orthopaedic surgeons to consider joint replacement.

The Joint Replacement Resource Center is a virtual centre where visitors can learn about joint replacement and receive support for the various steps in considering joint replacement. Visitors can take an interactive self-test related to joint replacement, find tools to help them prepare for a visit with their orthopaedic surgeon, and access educational information on joint replacement from medical experts and other patients.

"Advances in technology and medicine have made joint replacement therapies more effective and beneficial than ever before", stated Ned Lipes, Group President of Stryker Howmedica Osteonics. "As more consumers pursue these therapies, the need for responsible information about the benefits, risks and opportunities has also risen. We believe this new resource will provide patients with the information they need to get the best care and make the most informed decisions."

Stryker Corporation develops, manufactures, and markets speciality surgical and medical products, including orthopaedic reconstructive, trauma, spinal and cranio-maxillofacial implants, the bone growth factor osteogenic protein-1, powered surgical instruments, endoscopic systems, patient care and handling equipment for the global market, and provides outpatient physical therapy services in the United States.
