ATKOSoft's Frontis S/W Suite among the 33 leading applications of eHealth in Europe

Athens 27 May 2003In the European Ministerial eHealth 2003 Conference focused on Information and Communication Technology for the Health Sector (ICT), which took place in Brussels, the 33 most outstanding applications of health in all European countries were presented, combining innovative ideas with advanced technology.


The first ever winners of the eEurope awards for eHealth were announced in the presence of European Commissioners and 33 ministers for health. The prize winners were selected by an independent jury from a short list of 42 initiatives representing best practices.

The competition was one of four foreseen for the period 2003 to 2005, two of which will award eHealth initiatives, the other two rewarding eGovernment good practices. The winners were Evisand, a virtual environment for health care in Seville, Spain; Sjunet, a national information technology infrastructure for health care in Sweden; Coherence, an information system for successful hospital restructuring in Paris, France; and NHS Direct, a national health service Web site in the United Kingdom.

Among the 33 applications distinguished from the 179 submitted, was the Frontis software suite "Hospital at Home" of ATKOSoft, that has been implemented with complete success in the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Centre of Athens "YGEIA".

Dr. Hlias Papazisis, Director of the Home Care Department at YGEIA Hospital, and Yiannis Samiotakis, Director of the Project & Business Development Department of ATKOSoft, presented to the Ministers of Health and Telecommunications of 28 countries, the way of operation of the Home Care Department in the YGEIA Hospital, based on the Frontis software suite, as well as the advantages offered to the patients of the organisation.

The Greek Minister of Health, Mr. Stefanis, and the Greek Undersecretary of Transports and Communications, Mr. Stratakis, who visited the booth of YGEIA and ATKOSoft, expressed particular interest and praised the YGEIA Hospital for the social work that has been carried out as well as ATKOSoft for the Frontis application.

Mr. Christian Paggetti, Biomedical Engineer and Evaluator, congratulated the YGEIA Hospital as well as ATKOSoft for the advanced Home Care Services, that impressed all the evaluators. With the Frontis application of ATKOSoft for the "Home Care Services", the YGEIA Hospital can provide complete hospital-level services in patients homes.

The Home Care Department of YGEIA Hospital, after the installation of Frontis in 2000, has realised up to now more than 40.000 resident visits for 4000 patients.
