iMetrikus' MediCompass service featured in the Yahoo! Diabetes Health Center

Sunnyvale 06 August 2003Yahoo! Inc. has established a relationship with iMetrikus that will make iMetrikus' award-winning personal health management programme, MediCompass, available to Yahoo! Health users. Available on Yahoo! Health starting now, MediCompass is a secure on-line system that empowers people with diabetes to take control and effectively manage their condition.

Developed by iMetrikus and based on advanced telehealth technologies, the MediCompass service is an important and effective service for consumers and health care professionals in the daily management of diabetes, a chronic condition that affects millions.

The MediCompass service allows users to record blood glucose levels, medications, daily activities and other relevant information gathered from their diabetes monitoring devices. Individuals can then read an analysis of their health status directly from their desktop and make the changes necessary to improve control of their diabetes. The system also allows users to share readings and other key information with their health care team securely and privately.

"Our relationship with iMetrikus allows Yahoo! users to get connected to the most advanced health management tools available, encouraging them to take charge of personal and family health concerns", stated Tina Pang Mayer, general manager, Yahoo! Health. "This service, and similar ones to follow, represents a real commitment by Yahoo! Health to provide consumers with state-of-the-art tools for actively managing their health."

The MediCompass service works with commonly used personal diabetes management devices like blood glucose monitors and insulin pumps. The service utilises American Diabetes Association guidelines to educate members on important aspects of their diabetes health, and emphasises the importance of daily blood glucose management.

Some of the specific features for the Yahoo! Health MediCompass system include:

  • Comprehensive tracking of health status
  • Easy to use reports and graphs
  • Personalised health action plans
  • Expert guidelines and resources
  • Information sharing with health care providers

The MediCompass diabetes management system was awarded top honours in a survey conducted by The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Iowa. In results published in the April 2003 issue of The Diabetes Educator, MediCompass earned the highest number of total points among 14 Web-based programmes for providing the most effective, comprehensive and easy-to-use diabetes management system.

Yahoo! Health and iMetrikus plan to introduce additional condition-specific programmes throughout 2003. iMetrikus provides a modern, interactive connection between those who are chronically ill and the health professionals who care for them. Specialising in Web-based health management and remote monitoring systems, iMetrikus serves those managing diabetes, asthma, pulmonary disease, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, congestive heart failure, and HIV/AIDS. The MediCompass health management system employs the highest standards for privacy and security as accredited by Health on the Net Foundation (HON).
