Western Maryland Health System selects Park City Solutions emPOWERnet as real-time enterprise (RTE) Web platform

Midway 13 January 2004Western Maryland Health System of Cumberland, Maryland, a Premier member hospital, has selected Park City Solutions' emPOWERnet:Provider as the real-time enterprise (RTE) portal solutions for 24/7 access to patient data and medical resources from any secured Internet connection.

Western Maryland Health System, a health care organisation that utilizes the MEDITECH Healthcare Information Systems, chose Park City Solutions' emPOWERnet for its application framework for enterprise portals, its flexible architecture and ability to integrate data from disparate legacy systems.

To augment Western Maryland Health System clinicians' access to critical patient and demographic information and results reporting from the laboratory, radiology, and other transcribed reports, emPOWERnet will utilize Iatric Systems of Boxford, Massachusetts to supply the middleware necessary to provide bi-directional access to existing MEDITECH systems data. emPOWERnet:Provider will provide clinicians with secure, anytime access via and easy-to-use portal providing the right information to the right person at the right time.

"Given that our data is primarily housed in MEDITECH systems, we wanted customized applications to access that information but we also wanted an approach that did not require significant resources", stated Barry Ronan, President and CEO of Western Maryland Health System. "Park City Solutions' emPOWERnet technology offered us the best of both worlds: seamless access to our data coupled with a solution that was significantly less expensive than building a customized application from scratch."

The emPOWERnet:Mobile solution, powered by PatientKeeper of Boston, Massachusetts, will also enable physicians to easily access patient demographic and clinical result information, view patient lists, and perform pre-rounding all through one handheld Palm OS or Pocket PC wireless device(PDA). emPOWERnet:Mobile will empower physicians with "one-tap" access to key patient information, maximizing the efficiency of physician and nursing staff, increasing the time spent on delivering care, and enabling Western Maryland Health System to extend existing legacy information systems.

"Our multi-constituent portal solution is a great match for Western Maryland Health System's vision of providing a single portal solution that integrates with MEDITECH systems, reducing IT infrastructure costs and supporting interaction with employees", stated Terry Pitts, Chief Executive Officer, Park City Solutions. "Rapid deployment is also a key driver for Western Maryland Health System and emPOWERnet's application framework is designed with that goal in mind. We look forward to celebrating the launch of their emPOWERnet-powered portal and are proud to be associated with an organisation known for high quality."
