Emageon to provide Intelligent Visual Medical System to Lourdes Hospital and Wisconsin's ThedaCare

Birmingham 20 January 2004Emageon, a provider of intelligent visual medical systems, has signed an agreement with Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, New York, to manage medical image visualization and work flow integration throughout its organisation. The company also signed a contract with ThedaCare, an integrated delivery system in Central Wisconsin, to provide advanced visualization, content management and work flow integration of medical imaging throughout its multi-facility enterprise. Emageon's Intelligent Visual Medical System (IVMS) supports enterprise medical image sources and will integrate with ThedaCare's existing business and clinical information software applications. All physicians and medical professionals throughout the ThedaCare hospitals will be able to access multi-speciality images, related information and advanced visualization toolsets, which are dynamically selected through a single user interface.

"Among the reasons we partnered with Emageon was its adherence to standards, its easy-to-use visualization interface and advanced visualization toolkit, and the fact that Emageon was able to react quickly to our needs", stated Stew Garson, Director of Radiology at ThedaCare. "They had satisfied customers to back this up. Emageon's experience at the enterprise level gave them a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Also, knowing this will be a long-term partnership, Emageon's Adoption Success Management (ASM) programme was a big draw as they understand how important user acceptance is to the entire project."

"ThedaCare, like many other health care providers, is challenging the status quo of the PACS market", stated Milton Silva-Craig, Emageon's Chief Operating Officer. "Not satisfied with traditional PACS solutions that do not offer infrastructures that adhere to standards, nor multiple user interface workstations and only solutions focused on a single department, ThedaCare insisted on a better alternative. After ThedaCare's well planned and thorough analysis of the market, we are pleased to have been chosen to deploy our new Intelligent Visual Medical System. Our thin-client visualization platform combines powerful 2D and 3D tools in a single, customizable user interface, which addresses a broad constituency of users, a key to ThedaCare's strategic growth plans."

ThedaCare operates two regional medical centres, Appleton Medical Center in Appleton, Wisconsin, and Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, Wisconsin, and, through its health plans, contracts with 16 other facilities to deliver care. ThedaCare has entered into an affiliation agreement with New London Family Medical Center, which is located in New London, Wisconsin.

The new system for the Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, New York, supports medical image sources from across the enterprise and will integrate with other applications to improve access to information, process efficiency and patient care outcomes. This evolution of systems and integration creates an Intelligent Visual Medical Record (IVMR) for all physicians and medical professionals. The IVMR provides multi-speciality images, related information and advanced visualization toolsets, which are dynamically selected through a single user interface.

"Lourdes Hospital has been evaluating the acquisition of PACS for a few years", stated John O'Neil, Lourdes' CEO. "This represents one of the largest investments that we were going to make as an organisation and we were seeking a partner as much as a technology. After a thorough review of Emageon, we found that they go far beyond traditional installation and training proposed by most companies. They are focused on utilizing the technology to create a more efficient system for our patients and professionals alike."

Lourdes Radiologist Lawrence Cadkin, M.D. stated: "The implementation of Emageon's solution will allow us to deliver patient information more efficiently to physicians anywhere and anytime throughout the patient care episode. Our physicians will have access to state-of-the-art tools in clinical imaging and work flow representing the latest developments in technology available in their office, the hospital or at home." Brian Wetzel, the Administrative Director of Diagnostic Imaging at Lourdes added: "Emageon's Intelligent Visual Medical System means that we can provide care that leaves no one behind and health care that works."

"We are very pleased to have been selected by Lourdes Hospital for the deployment of our new Intelligent Visual Medical System, a suite of advanced visualization, content management and work flow integration tools", stated Milton Silva-Craig of Emageon. "We will work together in a close partnership to collaborate on ways to enhance health care within the Binghamton community. This technology enhances many aspects of care delivery. Emageon offers structured processes to bring it all together, creating cohesive and efficient work flow for patients, physicians and health care professionals."
