Shriners Hospitals for Children to prescribe Airespace for wireless mobilty at 22 hospitals

San Jose 23 February 2004Shriners Hospitals for Children, a network of 22 hospitals that provide expert, no-cost orthopaedic and burn care to children under 18, has chosen Airespace as a strategic platform for Wireless LAN (WLAN) services. By deploying the Airespace Wireless Enterprise Platform in each of its hospitals throughout North America, Mexico, and Canada, Shriners Hospitals for Children can provide doctors, nurses, and support staff with anytime access to records and on-line resources. In addition, the Airespace wireless LAN enables on-line scheduling of resources and electronic data input for improved efficiency and reduced administrative errors.

"The Airespace platform is ideally suited to meet our hospitals' wireless needs", stated Ralph Semb, President of Shriners Hospitals for Children. "We leveraged Airespace's advanced RF prediction capabilities to streamline WLAN design and deployment. In addition, Airespace's unique real-time intelligence ensures that our network is always available and performing at its peak. The Airespace WLAN even protects us from day-to-day threats. We would have required several different overlay solutions to get all of the functionality provided in a single Airespace WLAN infrastructure."

The Airespace network deployed within the Shriners Hospitals for Children integrates well with existing security measures and reinforces compliance efforts with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), including access control, encryption, and auditing.

"We are pleased to be supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children through wireless mobility", stated Steve Visconti, vice president of sales at Airespace. "By combining secure mobility with reliable WLAN performance, the Airespace platform has distinguished itself as the premier WLAN system for health care environments."

Shriners Hospitals for Children is a network of paediatric speciality hospitals, founded by the Shrine, where children under the age of 18 receive excellent medical care absolutely free of charge. There are 18 orthopaedic Shriners Hospitals, three Shriners Hospitals dedicated to treating children with severe burns, and one Shriners Hospital that provides orthopaedic, burn and spinal cord injury care. Shriners Hospitals are located throughout North America: 20 in the United States and one each in Mexico and Canada. These "Centers of Excellence" serve as major referral centres for children with complex orthopaedic and burn problems.

Airespace designs and develops intelligent wireless networking platforms that support business-critical applications. With dynamic RF management, air-tight security, seamless mobility, and support for real-time applications such as voice, Airespace helps enterprises implement secure Wireless networks worldwide.
