Pascack Valley Hospital chooses Misys Healthcare Systems to advance to next level of CPR and CPOE sophistication

Raleigh 18 May 2004Misys Healthcare Systems has signed an agreement with Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, New Jersey, to purchase Misys Optimum clinical information management solutions including Misys CPR, Misys Data Warehouse, Misys Media Manager, Misys Laboratory and Misys Encompass. Pascack Valley Hospital, the most aggressive user of computerized physician order entry (CPOE) in Bergen County bordering New York City, is replacing its Eclipsys E7000 clinical system with the Misys CPR fully integrated computer-based patient record information system with CPOE.

The 291-bed non-profit community hospital will deploy Misys' applications to advance clinical information management and CPOE adoption to a new level of integration and functionality in order to improve quality of care and patient safety including medication error reduction. The deployment of Misys CPR and related solutions will help Pascack Valley Hospital retain market share and its leadership position serving its more than 18.000 inpatients and 110.000 outpatient visits annually in New Jersey's highly competitive health care marketplace.

The selection of Misys solutions came after an extensive evaluation process. "Because 40 percent of our orders are already entered electronically by physicians, our expectations were higher and we had specific functional and performance objectives that needed to be met immediately", stated Joe Palombit, chief information officer, Pascack Valley Hospital. "After witnessing the depth of functionality active at several facilities, Misys CPR was the first choice of our task force of physicians, nurses and ancillary employees who evaluated seven different systems."

Continuing, Joe Palombit stated: "Misys CPR is way ahead of the curve with intuitive clinical information technology and CPOE, and our knowledgeable physicians took notice. Our health care professionals are already using automation to a great extent. They expect more and we plan to deliver it by building upon their CPR and CPOE experience with Misys CPR."

"We are honoured to partner with Pascack Valley Hospital who is deploying CPOE successfully", stated Andrew Lawson, president of Misys Healthcare Systems' Hospital Systems business unit. "Like many hospitals, Pascack is realizing increased pressure from declining reimbursements. Their confidence in Misys CPR to play a key role in plans to aggressively market health care services to the community and to referring physicians is excellent validation of the solution's capabilities."

"We selected Misys because we wanted the best clinical software on the market to benefit our patients and to achieve our objective of equipping our health care professionals with reliable and easy-to-use tools to provide the best quality of patient care to our community", stated Louis R. Ycre, Jr., FACHE, president and chief executive officer, Pascack Valley Hospital. "Misys CPR was the only system we found that offered the integrated functionality that we needed and provided more sophisticated clinical decision support to encourage best practice and ultimately better care decisions."

A key differentiator was Misys CPR's ability to satisfy patient safety requirements mandated by the Leapfrog Group and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Misys CPR supports emerging standards for the electronic health record. It improves safety through closed loop medication administration, computerized order entry and comprehensive documentation. Misys CPR is the centerpiece of Misys Optimum, a unique patient data sharing strategy that connects the hospital to community-based physicians, clinics and home care organisations.

"The community hospital is the setting in which most acute care is delivered", stated Andrew Lawson. "If the benefits of CPOE are to be fully recognized, community hospitals such as Pascack Valley Hospital armed with vision, leadership and commitment from senior management and staff are paving the way to full CPOE activation using the award-winning Misys CPR."

Pascack Valley Hospital is a full-service, 291-bed non-profit medical centre and the flagship of an integrated network of health care services and physicians known as the Well Care Group Inc., which provides a full spectrum of the most advanced, technically-specialized health care services available today.
