e-MDs announces partnership with Motion Computing for EMR integration into tablet PCs

Cedar Park 09 August 2004e-MDs has signed a partnership with Motion Computing, an expert in ultramobile computing and wireless communications. Under the partnership, e-MDs and Motion Computing will work together to encourage the adoption and optimization of Motion's tablet PCs within medical practices operating e-MDs' electronic medical record (EMR) solutions.

Joel Andersen, e-MDs Vice President of Sales and Marketing, stated: "Our EMR solution has been designed to take advantage of the many features tablet PCs offer and to make efficient clinical documentation at the point of care a reality. In fact, we are currently in the process of performing a study within our own cyber clinic to document the efficiency gains that can be achieved when combining our EMR solution with Motion's M1400 Tablet PC. Motion Computing has shown a rigorous commitment to be the leading provider of tablet PCs to the health care market, and we look forward to working with them to encourage adoption of their tablet PC offerings and to help our physician clients reap the benefits that our combined solutions can offer."

The award-winning Motion M1400 Tablet PC features several advancements in tablet technology for medical practices. The bright 12,1-inch screen has a wide viewing angle, allowing physicians to view or show a full-page document from any angle. The M1400's three-pound slate design is about the size of a clipboard, enabling doctors to work normally by carrying the tablet in one arm and using a digital pen to access patient records and enter handwritten notes.

With the M1400's built-in fingerprint reader, medical practices can ensure only authorized personnel can view patient records. The M1400 also includes Motion's Speak Anywhere audio system, which combines dual-array directional microphones with software that features acoustic echo cancellation and noise suppression to reduce background sound. Using Speak Anywhere, physicians can dictate patient information from anywhere, without the need of a headset. The M1400 is a full-fledged computer that is based on Intel Centrino mobile technology and runs Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.

"Motion recognizes that the right tablet PC software is key to delivering our health care customers what they need, so we are pleased to partner with e-MDs as part of our programme to advance and support software development for the tablet PC", stated David Altounian, Motion's chief product officer. "Motion's new M1400 Tablet PC and e-MDs' EMR solution go hand-in-hand in helping medical practices become more efficient."
