The scope of the OPN Innovation Award programme involves the following requirements: tools have to be based on Oracle technology or products, have to help further Oracle's vision and strategic intent and have to incite customers to venture to new levels of technology adoption. The type of innovation Oracle was looking for, should present the following characteristics. The solutions have to address a new market segment, create a new business model or revenue stream, develop a new type of solution; or deliver a new kind of service. The interest of the OPN members was very positive, something that was proven by the participation of more than 90 companies.

The OPN Innovation Board was composed of Senior Management members representing each of the EMEA countries and regions, and this panel assessed the Innovation submissions based on the above-mentioned predefined criteria. The Second OPN Innovation Award is to be given during the OPN Day in Dubai on April 20th.

The Frontis software suite of ATKOSoft, was ranked in the "Top 10" Finalists, among the 90 submitted applications. The Frontis suite of software applications has been designed to support exactly the functionality required for a revolutionary scheme of almost hospital-level home care services that can effectively reduce hospitalization and/or visits to a hospital without any compromises in health care quality.

The application consists of the following main components. Frontis is a Home Care Plan that is developed and is being monitored by health care professionals of multiple disciplines. The scheduling of Home Visits has been implemented by visiting personnel of multiple disciplines. A Module of On-Line Real Data Acquisition from Portable Devices has been built in for the collection of actual medical readings for home visits and their automatic integration in the patient Multimedia Health Record.

In addition, Frontis provides a Patient Multimedia Health Record that includes all patient related data including real medical data and is used to co-ordinate the home care service provision; Diagnosis Management; Patient Monitoring Management; Financial data management; Managerial Statistical Reports; Data Security Mechanisms; a Parametrical Definitions and Codification Scheme; Groupwork support and robust networking of different people or organisations co-operating in the provision of home care services, regardless of their physical location; and Mobility support.

The technology employed, is specifically designed to support mobile professionals while working in the field and ensuring their effective co-ordination from the Medical Centre that manages the provision of services. In addition, the software takes advantage of GPRS - 3G mobile communication technology - that allows the on-line transfer of data from the field to the central database, while potentially, the application can operate effectively with other portable equipment that is available in the market such as, for example, PDAs.

More news about Frontis is available in the VMW July 2003 article ATKOSoft's Frontis S/W Suite among the 33 leading applications of eHealth in Europe.
