Gooding Hospital selects Optio's Electronic Health Record (EHR) solution

Alpharetta 15 August 2006Gooding County Memorial Hospital has chosen Optio Software Inc.'s integrated EHR solution to automate and streamline document-intensive health care processes and reduce the costs of printed forms. Before selecting Optio, Rod Larsen, Gooding Hospital's Chief Financial Officer, did a cost analysis of what they currently spend on paper forms. He discovered that Gooding, excluding handling costs, pays approximately $150.000 per year on paper and printing. "With Optio, we estimate that these costs will be reduced by over 90 percent during the next five years. That's a significant savings for a small hospital", stated Rod Larsen.

Gooding's decision, however, was not solely based on cost reduction. According to Rod Larsen, the most important factor behind their decision to go with Optio was the real-time accessibility to on-line health care records that Optio QuickRecord will provide to physicians and administrative staff.

"We knew that physician buy-in was critical, so we arranged a demonstration of Optio's solution for the medical staff. They loved it", stated Rod Larsen. "They were 100 percent behind the decision as soon as they realized they would have access to patient health records from anywhere, anytime, via the internet", continued Rod Larsen. "Our doctors were also impressed with the simple, yet sophisticated features of the solution, which will enable them to view, analyse, edit, approve and distribute health information from the desktop. They hadn't seen these capabilities with other systems."

Initially, Rod Larsen's team was considering a modular option to their current HIS before deciding on Optio. "When we did the analysis, we found that Optio offered a more robust, feature-rich solution for about a third of the price", stated Rod Larsen. "We decided that Optio QuickRecord, coupled with MedEx forms management and Patient Signature Capture was the right solution to meet Gooding's current and future needs."

"We're pleased to be Gooding Hospital's EHR provider of choice", stated Mike McGuire, Optio's senior vice president and general manager of health care services. "We've had the good fortune to work with Rod Larsen when we implemented Optio's EHR solution at Wray Hospital in Colorado", stated Mike McGuire. "We consider it a great sign of confidence that he chose to partner with us again in his new role at Gooding", stated Mike McGuire.
