Wayport and Catalis join forces to optimize medical office visits

Austin 02 October 2006Wayport Inc., a provider of network services, technology and application support to mobile users and Catalis Inc., the creator of the world's first graphical health record (GHR), have signed an agreement utilizing Wayport's technology and network capabilities, including the support of wireless devices that enable Catalis's electronic health records system. This collaboration will enhance the traditional clinic experience for both doctors and their patients.

The Catalis Accelerator GHR is a highly intuitive application that operates on a chart-like wireless 802.11 b/g tablet PC, allowing physicians to practise medicine as they were originally trained - walking in and out of patient exam rooms and talking face-to-face with patients. The Accelerator GHR performs a variety of physician functions quickly and easily, such as recording a patient's physical exam and history, plus exchanging patient information with pharmacies and laboratories and saving doctors time and money.

With the addition of Wayport's carrier grade Wi-Fi wireless network service, technology, and ongoing maintenance and application support, the Catalis Accelerator GHR now provides a highly secure, reliable and cutting-edge electronic health record solution for the medical industry.

"The Wayport solution raises the bar of wireless system performance, reliability and security; and provides first-class support to maximize the value of our graphical health record system", stated Dr. Randolph Lipscher, President and CEO of Catalis Inc. "Our experience shows that physicians using the Accelerator GHR can expect to see an increase in clinic productivity by at least 15 percent within the first 6 months without any of the hassles associated with trying to maintain their own wireless networks."

As an added benefit, clinics operating the Accelerator GHR can offer Wayport's fast, reliable Wi-Fi Internet access to the public. In the waiting room or in other parts of the office, patients and visitors can access e-mail, surf the web or stay in touch with the office or family, all backed by enhanced security and VPN support.

"We are excited to be collaborating with an innovative company like Catalis Inc. to extend the wireless digital experience into doctors' offices for patients, visitors and staff", stated Dave Vucina, CEO for Wayport. "The introduction of Wayport's capabilities to enable unique applications like the Accelerator GHR in the health care vertical market can enable medical offices to streamline operations, implement new capabilities that are fundamental to their business, and offer valuable services to help them attract and retain loyal customers."

Wayport is a provider of network services, technology and applications support to mobile users at nearly 13.000 directly enabled and managed locations in 32 countries. Premier venues include major hotels, airports, McDonald's and Hertz locations, and other retail brands worldwide.

Austin-based Catalis Inc. was founded in 1999 and was the first company in its industry to develop an electronic health record for primary use on a wireless tablet PC. Since its introduction, physicians have found the Accelerator GHR's patent-pending graphical framework so ground-breaking that the software merited its own category: the world's first graphical health record. The Catalis Accelerator GHR is currently being used and installed throughout the United States in private medical clinics, academic health centres, and independent physician organisations. Available Accelerator clinic speciality modules include Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, ENT, Paediatrics, and Podiatry.
