CHD Meridian Healthcare and McKesson forge new relationship

Chadds Ford 08 October 2007CHD Meridian Healthcare, an I-trax Inc. company and a provider of workplace health care, has selected McKesson Corporation as its primary pharmaceuticals distributor for its on-site pharmacies and health care centres. Along with supplying pharmaceuticals, McKesson will work with CHD Meridian to implement pharmacy technologies and automation systems that are expected to result in cost savings and enhanced patient safety and convenience. McKesson is the world's largest health care services company and is a respected expert in pharmacy supply management.

"We expect this strategic partnership with McKesson to result in significant benefits over the next five years", stated Frank A. Martin, chairman of CHD Meridian Healthcare. "For our clients, though, this partnership means even more. It means that we will be enhancing our already innovative pharmacy model and providing even greater value for them."

CHD Meridian Healthcare, the largest provider of on-site health care centres for employers across the United States, operates 30 workplace-based pharmacies that are either stand-alone facilities or are integrated with other health services. The company is implementing McKesson's Enterprise Rx technology at all of its pharmacy locations. The platform allows for more efficient staffing and greater accuracy by reducing the number of times a prescription is touched before it is filled.

The agreement with McKesson also gives CHD Meridian the ability to utilize Parata's automated delivery technology, APM, at its pharmacies. The kiosk system allows patients to pick up their prescriptions more quickly and expedites the checkout process. "This technology makes it quicker for our clients' employees to get their prescriptions, gives them more privacy, and frees up the pharmacy staff for enhanced patient counseling, wellness and disease management engagement", stated J. Kevin Bice, R.Ph., senior vice president of Pharmacy Operations for CHD Meridian.

McKesson is allocating dedicated resources to CHD Meridian to help ensure the timely and successful implementation of this partnership. "We see this investment as a sign of McKesson's commitment to CHD Meridian and our belief in their approach to delivering health care in the workplace. Today's health care consumers are continually seeking out convenient, efficient and cost-effective care, and McKesson is pleased to support CHD Meridian in the delivery of innovative solutions such as this", stated John Figueroa, president, McKesson Pharmaceuticals.
