We Care Health Services partners with IgeaCare Systems to deliver Healthanywhere for chronic disease management in Canada

Toronto 07 March 2008Healthanywhere, a division of IgeaCare Systems Inc., has partnered with We Care Health Services Inc. to deliver a telehealth system that provides a comprehensive menu of services for those with chronic diseases and their caregivers. We Care will employ a combination of easy-to-use technology and traditional home care to monitor health and promote independence in one's home. The company integrates health promotion, symptom management and disease prevention to help clients stay on the targets set with their doctors. Patients with chronic diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Coronary Artery Disease, post-coronary/stroke, arthritis, cancer, mental health/behaviour disorders, diabetes and kidney or liver disorders will benefit from this programme.

Healthanywhere is not meant to replace nursing visits, but it can significantly reduce the number of visits required, while the monitoring function has been shown to decrease the number of ER visits and hospital admittances for people using the system. As clients and their families learn more about their disease, their ability to identify problems earlier and to react in a pro-active way promotes their independence and improves their quality of life. As clients enjoy daily monitoring of their condition, their peace of mind is increased, they do not feel they are "home alone" in a medical system that is overwhelmed with the demands placed on it.

John Schram, President and CEO of We Care Health Services, stated: "We are excited to be partnering with IgeaCare on this exciting new programme that allows Canadians to lead more productive lives. As clients continue to monitor the basic measures of their health with the support of a nurse, they can make the positive changes to their lifestyle that will allow them to remain safely at home. This healthier population will lead the way to a new, more preventative focused system of health care."

The offering will be rolled out in phases throughout 2008 and it is anticipated that it will be available to clients initially in Ontario by later this month. "Innovation in health care technology is a must if we are to deal with a rapidly aging population. Healthanywhere delivers on this need, freeing up scarce resources and improving the health of the community. It is a new way for Canadians with chronic diseases to manage their disease and to improve their quality of life, an exciting new Canadian development that is leading the way to pro-active health care", stated Peter Tassiopoulos, president of IgeaCare, adding further, "We Care has shown us a desire to lead in the transformation of how health care is delivered and as such we are both excited and honoured to be working with such a committed and skilled group of people."
