My Healthy Access and NuPhysicia sign joint operating agreement for Wal-Mart based telemedicine clinics

Houston 21 July 2008My Healthy Access Inc.'s mission to continually provide the highest-quality access to health care available today resulted in the signing of a joint operating agreement with NuPhysicia LLC for the operation of Telemedicine clinics in select Houston-area Wal-Mart Supercenters. In order to ensure that patients can differentiate between the physician directed services provided in the company's clinics and the nurse-based services provided by most other retail clinic operators, the parties have agreed to operate under the trade name "Walk-In Telemedicine Health Care".

The programme is one of the service lines of NuPhysicia LLC, the private medical services company produced from the longest running, largest, and most proven telemedicine programme in the world at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston. Under this agreement, physicians will serve patients using its proven remote telemedicine through paramedics who will welcome and examine patients under direct supervision of a physician.

"Simply put, the paramedic serves as the 'hands' of the physician, who uses medical devices such as an electronic stethoscope to listen to the heart, or other scopes that can see down the throat or in the ears - and the physician sees and hears everything live and in real time", stated Glenn G. Hammack, president of NuPhysicia. "The physician performs the exam as if he or she was in the room with the patient."

Glenn G. Hammack said the programme replaces the care typically provided by nurse practitioners at retail clinics. "Our alliance takes that care a step further, bringing new levels of service, convenience and value to the retail health care setting through interactive physician visits."

"In keeping with our mission to continually search for the best approaches to retail health care, we began evaluating proven telemedicine methods, and this led us to NuPhysicia", stated My Healthy Access Inc.'s President Kathleen Delaney. "Our partnership with NuPhysicia will no doubt enhance services in our retail clinics to better serve our patients and offer us even greater potential for new business strategies in the future."

Created specifically as a service that can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the client, the technology can function for almost any requirement. "Whether it's a programme like this with My Healthy Access Inc., or one created for a clinic within a corporate setting, we know the system enhances the health of its clients, increases productivity and improves the bottom line", Glenn G. Hammack stated. "We know this because we've witnessed it personally for more than a decade in our work at UTMB."

"Our telemedicine methods have served hundreds of thousands of patients from Texas to as far away as the South Pole", stated Glenn G. Hammack. "Similar live-video technology is now monitoring the most critically ill in ICUs across the nation - now we can offer the residents of Houston access to convenient, high-quality health care."
